REALIZATION THROUGH REPETITION: BURGHER BASIS IN THOMAS MANN'S NOVELS

Abstract

In the article the picture of burgher world and its structural role in Thomas Mann's novels "Buddenbrooks", "Confessions of Felix Krull" and "The Magic Mountain" are considered. Special attention is paid to the changes of burghers' interpretation at the narrative level. The familiar from the first novel image of burgher world is undergone a removal by means of repetition of narrative structures and formulations in later novels. Owing to this, the realization and further development of the theme of burghers in Thomas Mann's creativity occur.
