“BAUDOLINO” BY UMBERTO ECO AS A META-HISTORICAL NOVEL

Abstract

The article examines the novel by Umberto Eco “Baudolino” in its meta-historical aspect. The author analyzes the process of transfer of the formal and genre peculiarities of the medieval chronicles in the content plane of the novel, taking into consideration, among the others, the diachronic aspect - realization of the mentioned genre in its different variations. On the basis of the conducted analysis the author concludes that Eco, drawing the material from the medieval sources, develops in “Baudolino” post-modernist conception of history; the researcher touches on the basic peculiarities of this conception represented in the novel.
