FIRST-PERSON NARRATION AS ONE OF THE MAIN LINGUISTIC CHARACTERISTICS OF AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL TEXTS

Abstract

First-person narration in the singular is a genre peculiarity of the texts of autobiographies. The author is both a narrator and protagonist. There are two types of such narration - objective and subjective. For the works of autobiographical genre the significant (but not exclusive) prevalence of the subjective form of first-person narration is typical. However, trying to convey objective information to the reader and to “hide” subjectivity the author has to change from first-person narration in the plural, third-person narration to indefinite-personal narration.
