OSSIAN AND OSSIANISM IN THE HISTORY OF THE EUROPEAN LITERATURE

Abstract

The general trends of the development of the European literature of the second half of the XVIII - the beginning of the XIX century are revealed by the example of the influence on them of lyric-epic poems by J. Macpherson created by the materials of the folklore collected by him in Highland Scotland and published in the eight-volume collection “The Works of Ossian, the Son of Fingal” (1765), which played an inestimable role in the history of world culture.
