SEMANTIC PECULIARITIES OF THE THEMATIC GROUP “THE MILITARY” IN MIDDLE ENGLISH
Abstract
The article deals with the semantic peculiarities of the thematic group “the military” which is the part of the lexical-semantic field “name of types of activity” in the Middle English period. The author makes the selection of lexical units and carries out the analysis of the meanings of the words related to the army. The idea that the names of the military in medieval England are a specific hierarchy and classification is grounded. The research allows getting the systemic idea about the military forces in the Middle English period. The received data may serve as an additional source of information about the period of Britain of the XI-XV centuries.
