RESTRICTIVE CHARACTER OF DECREASE IN CONSONANT RICHNESS OF SOUND CHAIN AS A STABILIZER OF STEADINESS OF CLUSTER FORMATIONS INVENTORY IN THE SYSTEM OF ENGLISH CONSONANTISM

Abstract

In the article the intralinguistic determinants of maintenance of relative steadiness of the consonant clusters inventory in the consonant system of the English language despite the development of reduction processes are described. It is ascertained that the restrictive conditions enabling the reduction mechanism include the phonetic environment of the vulnerable to reduction component of the cluster and the position of the cluster within the boundaries of a morphological segment of the word.
