THE MOTIVE OF A CHARACTER IN THE STORY BY V. NABOKOV “WINGSTROKE”

Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of functions and variants of the motive of a character in one of the earliest stories by V. Nabokov. It contributes to the revealing of spiritual essence of characters, finding out their intentions, substantiates the interconnection between heroes and serves ontological, gnoseological and axiological goals of the writer. Because of the insufficient study of Nabokov’s thanatology special attention is paid to the connection of this motive with a mortal subject matter.
