SPATIAL-TEMPORAL CONTINUUM OF “THE GOLDEN POT” BY E. T. A. HOFFMANN: BETWEEN NEO-PLATONISM AND MYTH POETICS
Abstract
The article reveals the structural peculiarities of the romantic short story by E. T. A. Hoffmann “The Golden Pot” directly going back to ancient Neo-Platonism. The spatial-temporal continuum and symbolic range of the text actualize Plotinus’ model of the gradual fading of the One. Hoffmann’s aspiration for the creation of his own myth-poetic universe conditions not only the use of philosophical mythologemes in the short story, but also referencing to folklore sources.
