ON THE SEMANTIC VARIATION OF PHRASEOLOGICAL DERIVATIVES

Abstract

In the article the author conducts the etymological and linguistic analysis of the popular expressions from F. Schiller’s works, which in the process of phraseological derivation underwent the semantic variation, i.e., the change of the plane of content (signified) while maintaining the same the plane of expression (signifier). It is ascertained that the formation of semantic-phraseological variants is carried out in two ways: through the parallel and sequential metaphorization of the original unit.
