MEANS TO CREATE COMIC EFFECT IN THE AMERICAN PRE-ELECTION DISCOURSE

Abstract

The article considers the role of transformed phraseological units and other types of pun to create the comic effect in the pre-election discourse with a view to manipulate the addressee. In this connection the author analyzes the techniques with a view to identify the basic functions of this manipulation technique. The researcher argues that laughter is one of the means to implement hidden influence which is typical for the discourse type under study.
