INTERTEXT IN THE HEADLINES OF THE ENGLISH JOURNALS (BY THE EXAMPLE OF “THE ECONOMIST” JOURNAL)

Abstract

The article aims to identify the parameters to evaluate the intertextuality of the headlines by the example of “The Economist” journal, to discover the means to express it in the English headlines and the determination of human activity spheres to which the headlines’ authors refer. The analysis testifies that according to informativeness level the misinforming headlines of meaningful-conceptual nature prevail, the intertextuality of headlines is most frequently expressed through the non-textual relations, in particular, allusions and quotations.
