LITERARY TRADITION OF P. S. ROMANOV’S STORY "CHILDHOOD"

Abstract

This article analyzes the artistic singularity of P. S. Romanov’s story "Childhood" that embodied the best achievements of the genre of the artistic-autobiographical story about childhood, the traditions of which were laid by Leo Tolstoy in the middle of the XIX century. Until present Romanov’s story hasn’t become the subject of a separate study. In an effort to fill this gap the author reveals, on the one hand, Romanov’s connection with the previous tradition (both in the aspects of subjects and poetics), on the other hand - his literary individuality in covering popular topics. The scientific and practical significance of the work is determined by the fact that firstly its results enable to expand the ideas of the literary process of the first half of the XX century; secondly to follow the evolution of the genre of the artistic-autobiographical story about childhood at a new stage of development.
