ON FUNCTIONING OF DEFINITE AND INDEFINITE DESCRIPTIONS IN THE ENGLISH DISCOURSE

Abstract

The article considers some cases of the specific use of definite and indefinite descriptions, actualized in nominal groups in discourse from cognitive perspectives. The examples of the non-unique use of definite nominal groups are revealed, and their cognitive classification is carried out. The paper also mentions the conditions for stylistic effect creation by the transposition of definite nominal groups in unusual contexts.
