SEMANTIC FEATURES OF ADJECTIVAL MODIFICATION IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Abstract

This article is an attempt to explain the modification processes in the nominal group of the English language from cognitive perspectives. It reveals the multi-directionality of semantic influence of adjectives in its structure and determines the phenomenon of exo- and endo-modification that are conditioned by mereological and contextual characteristics of the head of nominal group and its position in the structure of a sentence and discourse.
