THE STRUCTURE OF FUNCTIONAL-SEMANTIC FIELD OF POSSIBILITY/IMPOSSIBILITY MODALITY IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Abstract

The article examines the functional-semantic field (FSF) of modality in the English language, in particular, the meanings of possibility/impossibility, lexico-grammatical means to transfer them and functional peculiarities. The analysis of different approaches to differentiating the meanings of modality in the English language allowed the author to describe and systematize the basic grammatical and lexical means implementing the FSF of possibility/impossibility and to identify the essence and semantic structure of the mentioned category.
