TRADITIONAL NATURE MANAGEMENT OF THE EVENKS OF SOUTHERN YAKUTIA: TOPONYMIC FACTS

Abstract

In the article the toponyms of the Evenk origin of the south of Yakutia, which are connected with the history of the development of the territory under consideration, are analyzed. The research is based on the materials collected by the authors through oral interviews with the Evenks (hunters and deer-breeders), by processing local written sources (lists of settlements, geographical maps of different years of publication, Evenki-Russian dictionaries, etc.). The etymology of toponyms associated with such traditional kind of nature management of the Evenks as hunting is considered in the work. The description of a number of toponyms is accompanied by giving conjugate toponyms, functioning in the neighboring to Yakutia territories, presenting hunting ceremonies, and folk sayings.
