ON THE CATEGORY OF TIME IN THE YAKUT LEGENDS OF ELLEY AND OMOGOY
Abstract
The article analyzes time as a category of poetics in the Yakut legends of Elley and Omogoy. Special attention is paid to the figure of a narrator in the legend: he believes in the certainty of the described events, thus establishing their place in the stream of “historical” time. The narrator identifies himself with the heroes of legends. The relation between him and personages is formally expressed at the beginning and at the end of the text. Though the narrator is aware of time flow continuity, there is a gap of mythological nature between personages’ epoch and narrator’s epoch.
