FRAME-SEMANTIC ANALYSIS OF THE GERMAN VERBS OF OLFACTION

Abstract

The article tries to describe the extra-linguistic component of the semantics of the German verbs of olfaction as a part of the German perceptual lexicon. Such an approach to studying word meaning within the so called broad conception of semantics allows considering additional features that escape the researcher’s attention under the traditional approach. The frame-semantic analysis of the German verbs of olfaction identified numerous slots constituting a certain frame of a certain verb of olfaction. The content of each slot is described in detail.
