Term Formation by Means of Grammatical Words (by the Example of the Military Terminology of the Vietnamese Language)

Abstract

The purpose of the paper is to identify the features of multicomponent military terms of the modern Vietnamese language formed by means of grammatical words. The research is novel in that it represents the first attempt to consider the structural and semantic features of multicomponent terms of the Vietnamese language taking into consideration the functioning of grammatical words in them. The comparison of the status of grammatical words in phrases and sentences of non-isolating and isolating languages is being carried out. The research findings have shown that the presence of grammatical words in the structure of Vietnamese terms has both advantages and disadvantages. Each such term must be considered separately by comparing it with the result of term formation and taking into account the syntactic connections between the constituent components.
