Terminological Problems, Definition and Characteristics of Discursive Markers (by the Material of the English Language)

Abstract

This article is written within the framework of discourse theory and comparative studies. The main attention is paid to the terminological problem, definition and characteristics of discursive markers. The aim of the study is to identify the features of the term “discursive markers” and their characteristics in the English language. The scientific novelty lies in the study of terminological diversity, comparison of various definitions and identification of the term that most fully reveals the features of the pragmatic units of the language in English. As a result, the theoretical concepts necessary for better understanding of discursive markers are defined; various definitions and terms used over time to identify these pragmatic language units in English are described.
