The system of German temporal prepositions (conceptual approach)

Abstract

The aim of the study is to identify the characteristics of the system of temporal prepositions in the German language. The article examines the concept of TIME in German, provides a brief description of German temporal prepositions, highlights the semantic types of nouns in prepositional phrases, and describes the semantic functions of German temporal prepositions. The scientific novelty of the research lies in its ability to reveal features of the perception of time by native German speakers, as reflected in the semantics of temporal prepositions, thereby expanding the understanding of how cultural factors influence linguistic structure. This contributes to identifying the specificity and uniqueness of each preposition, making the comprehension of the system of temporal prepositions more profound. As a result of the study, it was established that the perception of the concept of TIME in German has culturally specific characteristics determined by conceptual asymmetry. German temporal prepositions possess a clear differentiation of semantic functions and may convey information about the nature of the temporal relation.
