Authorial identity and subjective organization in Adel Kutuy’s lyric poetry of the 1920s

Abstract

The study aims to systematize the subjective forms of expressing authorial consciousness in Adel Kutuy’s lyric poetry of the 1920s. The article analyzes Adel Kutuy’s poems from the perspective of their subjective organization. Based on the conducted analysis, the constitutive components of authorial self-identification are established: the predominance of collective identity; the juxtaposition of the past and the present; and the poet’s “Self” as a builder of a new life. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that, for the first time, authorial identity in A. Kutuy’s lyric poetry is examined from the perspective of its subjective representation. The study establishes that in A. Kutuy’s poetry of the 1920s, the lyric subject manifests a break with the pre-revolutionary past, devalues it ontologically, socially, and aesthetically, and identifies himself as a builder of a new life. In the course of analyzing the poems, subjective forms are identified, including a persona possessing stable biographical and worldview-related traits. It is determined that the self-identification of the lyric subject in A. Kutuy’s lyric poetry features a futurism-influenced radicalism toward the poetry of the past, which at the turn of the 1920s-1930s was replaced by an orientation toward the ideological integration of classical writers into contemporary reality (as seen in the poem “Tukay yanynda” / “Beside Tukay”).
