EDITORIAL STRATEGIES OF THE JOURNAL LIBRARY FOR READING WHILE TRANSLATING A FOREIGN LITERARY WORK (BY THE EXAMPLE OF THE TRANSLATION OF E. BULWER-LYTTON'S NOVEL THE LAST DAYS OF POMPEII

Abstract

The article tackles the publishing approaches of the editor of the journal Library for Reading - O. I. Senkovskoi - to the transfer of a translated literary work by the example of the translation of E. Bulwer-Lytton's historical novel The Last Days of Pompeii. The presented analysis allows considering this translation as the model of mass translation, the purpose of which was the maximum simplification of the ideological-artistic content of the novel that caused the decrease of its aesthetic level.
