WRITER’S PLACE AND FUNCTION IN SOCIETY (BY K. VONNEGUT’S SOCIAL AND POLITICAL ESSAYS)

Abstract

The author reveals Kurt Vonnegut’s views on the functions that a writer should perform in modern society, and, analyzing Vonnegut’s social and political essays, dwells on his theory that every creator is endowed with a special flair that allows him feeling the approach of a disaster earlier than other people can do it and warning them of danger. Society itself but not the state puts such a function on a writer. The attempt to derogate a writer’s right to be heard by audience is equivalent to the desire to hide the truth about the real state of affairs in the state.
