SIGNIFICANCE OF SYNTACTIC CHANGES IN LANGUAGE OF ANCIENT PERIOD IN PERFECT TENSE GRAMMATICALISATION IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Abstract

The author researches the significance of syntactic changes in the English language of ancient period in the development of perfect tenses. Grammaticalisation of perfect tenses in Middle English period occurred under the influence of such factors as syntactic changes, that is the disappearance of the old laws of verb position in a sentence; the formation of passive voice as a grammatical category; as well as the pragmatic aspects of grammatical structures use, including the language of immigrants from Scandinavia in Middle period of the English language development.
