CONCEPT “EMIGRANT” IN NOVELS BY E. M. REMARQUE

Abstract

The authors analyze the concept “emigrant” in emigrant Pentology of E. M. Remarque; show that the use of cognitive linguistics methods – the construction of concept field model – allows expanding the understanding of emigrant’s literary image, consider nuclear and near-nuclear representations of the concept, its immediate periphery, and pay special attention to figurative and symbolic comparisons and allusions by which the novels model the hero-emigrant’s biography.
