“SOTNIKOV” BY V. V. BYKOV: BETWEEN HEROIC AND TRAGIC

Abstract

The article compares three main interpretations of Bykov’s military novel “Sotnikov”, focused on one character, the moral conflict between two characters, and the multiple structure of characters system. The hypothesis about not heroic but tragic artistic structure of the novel that is associated with the moments of self-awareness and self-determination of the events essence by Sotnikov and Rybak, confirmed by the Gospel narrative perspective (Jesus – Judas), is formulated.
