MOTIVE OF LIGHT IN M. E. SALTYKOV-SHCHEDRIN’S NOVEL “THE GOLOVLYOV FAMILY”

Abstract

The article is devoted to the religious-philosophical and symbolic comprehension of the notion “divine light” in M. E. Saltykov-Shchedrin’s novel “The Golovlyov Family”. After analyzing liturgical sources, the author of the work comes to the conclusion that the archetypal image of the light in the text of a fiction work takes on an unconventional meaning: it indicates the remoteness of a man from God.
