ENGLISH FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES. HISTORICAL ASPECT

Abstract

The article considers the appearance of the notion "English for Specific Purposes" in the English-speaking countries simultaneously as a scientific direction and as a type of the English language training that meets the requirements of students. This direction of the English language teaching is one of the fastest developing at the moment. The article focuses on the fact that in the process of learning and teaching English for specific purposes, student’s needs, the analysis of typical professional communicative situations, the rules of successful communication come to the fore. A student develops the ability to select and implement the program of verbal behavior depending on the communicative situation, the knowledge of the structural elements of the language and the ability to use them in a variety of communicative situations, the mastery of the speech – organizing formulae set necessary for communication.
