MONSTROUS BODY AND THEORY OF POWER: LITERARY PROJECTIONS (BY THE MATERIAL OF NEIL GAIMAN’S STORY)
Abstract
The article reveals the correlation of the concept of “body” with the conceptions of “power” and “norm” by the material of the story by N. Gaiman, one of the most successful modern English writers. The author tries to prove that a monstrous body, being a deviation from the norm, testifies for the presence of inner conflict, imbalance in the system of standards developed by the society. To stay in the shadow of stereotypes, in the grip of fear before the unknown is everyone’s personal choice.
