THE SUBJECT OF A BARGAIN OF A HUMAN BEING WITH A DEVIL IN THE STORY BY A. N. TOLSTOY “NEVZOROV’S ADVENTURES, OR IBIKUS”

Abstract

The period of the end of the 1910s - beginning of the 1920s became crucial for the history of Russia and creative work of many writers, including A. N. Tolstoy. This article focuses on Tolstoy’s addressing in one of his works the “eternal” subject of a bargain with a devil as a method for representing the tragic changes in the life of the country. The author shows how the writer besides the traditional for this subject theme of integrity of a human personality managed to insert a theme of emigration into the storyline.
