INTEGRATED INFORMATION SYSTEM “TOPONYMY OF RUSSIA”

Abstract

Topical issue of the modern onomastics is a creation of electronic data bases. The article reveals the basic conceptions of a project of Information system “Toponymy of Russia” which should become an integrated database of the Russian scientists involved in the studies of geographic names. The author raises the problems of necessity and importance of a system, its structure, content, structural elements. The researcher emphasizes that the system should be open by its nature and should promote popularization of scientific knowledge.
