FUNCTIONING OF POLYSEMANTIC INTERJECTIONS IN GERMAN DIALOGIC DISCOURSE

Abstract

The article discusses the functioning of polysemantic interjections in German dialogic discourse. The author draws attention to the fact that the overwhelming number of interjections are polysemantic, capable of not only expressing certain nuances of emotions (for example, joy, delight, admiration, disappointment, melancholy, annoyance, astonishment, etc.), but they are also syncretical, combining in the process of functioning in a particular speech act not only similar in meaning emotional states, such as joy and delight, disappointment and frustration, reproach and irritation, but also meanings that seem to be incompatible, such as joy and disappointment.
