FIGURATIVE AND SYMBOLIC INTERPRETATION OF VIOLENCE IN THE PLAYS BY MARTIN MCDONAGH

Abstract

The article is devoted to analyzing one of the means for interpreting violence in the works by modern English dramatist, representative of the “new drama” trend Martin Mcdonagh. At the figurative and symbolic level the dramatist uses an image of food which becomes a weapon, stimulus or way of punishment. The food also comes out as a means to hurt each other morally. The author concludes that the food is considered by the writer as a motive for violence and its instrument.
