“SUPERFLUOUS MAN” IN THE WORKS BY CHINESE WRITERS OF THE FIRST HALF OF THE XX CENTURY

Abstract

The article is devoted to the image of a “superfluous man” in the works by Chinese writers of the first half of the XX century. In the first half of the XX century under the influence of Russian literature in the history of Chinese literature a special type of character appeared - “superfluous man”. Tszyuan'-shen, Tszyue-sin', Syao Tszyan'tsyu and Ni Khuan'-chzhi - all of them are “superfluous men”; they are not only the manifestation of a spiritual state of the people in a certain epoch, but also a representation of social reality and faults of a “minor scientist” of that time. This type does not entirely coincide with the Russian “superfluous man”, it is distinguished by its own unique features.
