THE REALIZATION OF THE IDEOGRAPHIC PRINCIPLE IN THE LEXICOGRAPHY OF THE MODERN ENGLISH LANGUAGE (BY THE EXAMPLE OF LEXICO-PHRASEOLOGICAL FIELD “INTELLECTUAL ACTIVITY”)

Abstract

The article deals with the peculiarities of the realization of the ideographic principle by the material of the English lexicography. The specificity of thesauri is considered, their varieties are studied by the example of the English ideography, and the detailed description of several English-language thesauri with the characteristic of the principles of their functioning is given. The fragment of thesaurus dictionary entry developed by the author by the example of the lexico-phraseological field “intellectual activity” in the English language is shown.
