THE SPECIFICITY OF SEMANTIC CONTENT OF THE CONCEPT “DEMOCRACY” IN THE AMERICAN POLITICAL DISCOURSE
Abstract
The paper conducts a discursive analysis of peculiarities of semantic content of the concept “democracy” in the editorial articles of TRC (TV and Radio Broadcasting Corporation) “The Voice of America”. In the American political discourse this concept correlates with highly significant public values “peace” and “prosperity” and is opposed to anti-values “extremism” and “radicalism”. Due to the pronounced value characteristics of the concept “democracy”, a substantivized adjective ‘democratic” develops a qualitative meaning.
