PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS WITH THE ELEMENTS OF COLOR DENOMINATIONS (BY THE EXAMPLE OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE PRESS)

Abstract

The article considers phraseological units with elements of color denominations in the English language. The main meanings of set phrases with the color denomination white, black and red and their usage in the English press are revealed. The authors come to the conclusion that phraseological units formed historically and acquired their idiomatic meaning based on literal denominations, real events and phenomena.
