ON THE ISSUE OF ONE POSSIBLE VIOLATION OF “DEFINITENESS EFFECT” IN ENGLISH EXISTENTIAL SENTENCES

Abstract

In the article a special case of definiteness effect - the quantifier “all” in post-verbal nominal groups of English existential sentences is studied. Participation of the quantifier in this position is traditionally considered doubtful, however, corpus material counters this opinion. During the study of the conditions of this structure functioning it was ascertained that for access to the post-copular nominal group and for combination with semantics of existentiality, universality of the quantifier should be removed or restricted by determinatives-companions.
