POSH AND SMART AS THE UPPER CLASSES PERCEPTION INDEXES

Abstract

The article discovers how the most frequent words “posh” and “smart” in the book by Ch. Jennings “People Like Us. A Season among the Upper Classes” (1998) transfer the middle classes’ perception of the British upper classes. Relying on the researches and developed methodology in the sphere of relation studies the author provides an analysis of the two lexical units and identifies the full range of aristocratism features, which provoke negative attitude (envy and anger) on the part of the middle class representatives due to the upper classes segregation.
