LINGUISTIC PECULIARITIES OF A NEWSPAPER HEADLINE AS REPRESENTATIVE OF THE “FEATURES” GENRE TEXT IN THE BRITISH QUALITY PAPERS (BY THE MATERIAL OF THE NEWSPAPER “THE GUARDIAN”)

Abstract

The article is devoted to studying the headline of the newspaper text of “features” genre, peculiar to the British quality papers. The headline as a strong element of the newspaper text includes intentional characteristics of the “features” genre text to the greatest extent, implementing the influencing function, which is domineering in this kind of text. By applying the method of linguistic analysis the language features of syntactic and lexical-phraseological levels are revealed, which contribute to the realization of the function of influencing the reader in the headlines.
