APOLLONIAN AND DIONYSIAN ELEMENTS IN THE NOVEL BY T. N. TOLSTAYA “KYS”

Abstract

The article examines the system of mythological images in the novel by T. N. Tolstaya “Kys”. Using theoretical tools from F. Nietzsche’s treatise “The Birth of Tragedy from the Spirit of Music” the author compares two basic mythological personages of the novel and analyzes their interrelation with the main character. The special attention is paid to the opposition of Apollonian and Dionysian elements, motive structure and author’s conception of myth.
