LEXICAL AND PHONETIC FEATURES OF EARLY NEW ZEALAND ENGLISH

Abstract

The article considers national and cultural features of early New Zealand English. The paper analyzes basic lexical and phonetic innovations that formed national literary norms on the basis of British dialects and the Maori language. It has been shown that New Zealand English has national and cultural peculiarities at all language levels. The Maori borrowing is a specific national peculiarity of New Zealand English.
