Abstract

The article discusses the opposition North/Civilization typical of the artistic space of the sign novels written by the famous writer of the second half of the XX century O. M. Kuvaev. The works are analyzed as a structural whole, which made it possible to reveal explicit and implicit forms of opposition. A description of the specific features of the North and Civilization is given, their role in revealing the ideological content of the works is noted. The writer’s gravitation to mythologize the space of the North is shown. A conclusion is made about the traditional nature of opposing spaces, which allows inserting Kuvaev’s novels into a fairly wide historical and literary context.
