LINGUISTIC WORLDVIEW OF THE MODERN BRITISH SOCIUM: DOMINATING SOCIAL TENDENCIES (BY THE MATERIAL OF “WORDS OF THE YEAR” SELECTED BY OXFORD DICTIONARIES)
Abstract
The article identifies new tendencies and changes in the British linguistic worldview and British national consciousness occurring over the last years. The research material includes “words of the year” lists selected by Oxford Dictionaries on the basis of analyzing statistical data and lexicographical potential of the lexemes. Diachronic analysis of “words of the year” semantic field allows the author to discover new meaningful elements of the national linguo-cultural worldview, to identify the most important spheres, events and phenomena which influenced social moods.
