DEVELOPMENT OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES AND TRANSITION TO THE INFORMATION SOCIETY

Abstract

The article deals with the process of the information society formation and the significant changes in the information sphere at the global level. The technological and economic prerequisites and problems of the transition to the information society are analyzed. The paper finds out that if earlier the process of development of information and communication technologies proceeded in the direction of certain specialization and differentiation, now the main condition is the possibility of their universal use. The author reveals the influence of global processes on media activity, determines the prospects of Azerbaijan’s integration into the global information space, identifies their technological, social, economic and cultural backgrounds. The study shows the problems of the global information society formation and outlines the ways of their solution by the state.
