THEORETICAL SUBSTANTIATION OF THE COLLECTION UNITY OF SHAKESPEARE’S SONNETS (IN THE TRANSLATIONS BY V. B. MIKUSHEVICH AND J. M. KOLKER)

Abstract

The translations of Shakespeare’s sonnets into Russian are perceived increasingly by translators as a single poetic cycle. Some authors substantiate such an interpretation theoretically. This helps to comprehend more accurately the translation approach and evaluate the author’s innovation in the search for the cycle-forming foundations of Shakespeare’s sonnet collection. The purpose of this article is to examine the theoretical works of two authoritative modern translators - V. B. Mikushevich and J. M. Kolker. These authors are most convincing in the analytical explanation of their views on the unity of Shakespeare’s poetic collection.
