SEMANTICS OF THE SECOND COMPONENTS OF GENERALIZED NEGATION IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Abstract

The article analyzes the semantics of the second components of generalized negation ( thing, body and one) in the English language. The research findings indicate that the polysemantic noun thing can undifferentiatedly designate the notion “thing” - an inanimate object and an animate being. The linguistic unit body has a narrower sphere of usage in comparison with the word thing. Semantics of the lexeme one is associated with the category of quantity and the individual’s separation from the surrounding world. Without naming a concrete object, these nouns serve to create a basis, around which certain features form.
