IDEA OF PERSONALITY’S ROLE IN D. A. GRANIN’S CONCEPTION OF HISTORY (BASED ON THE NOVEL “EVENINGS WITH PETER THE GREAT”)

Abstract

The article presents an analysis of the principles of historical figures’ images embodiment in retrospective prose. The problem of determining the relationship of the writer’s historical conception and the form of its literary realization in the work is solved. D. Granin’s final conception of history and its embodiment in the writer’s late work is studied for the first time. The place of Granin’s conception in the framework of “Peter I discourse” of the XVIII-XXI centuries is determined. The main result of the reformation, according to the author, is the creation of a new ideology. It is ascertained that, unlike D. Merezhkovsky and A. Tolstoy, D. Granin considers Peter I as the main initiator and ideologist of reforms. The rhetorical method of dispute modelling is the main literary means of the representation of the author’s point of view.
