ANALYSIS OF THE ENGLISH PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS IN J. MCCAIN’S POLITICAL SPEECH AND PECULIARITIES OF THEIR TRANSLATION

Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of figurative speech units in J. McCain’s political speeches and the peculiarities of their translation. Four typical cases of using figurative speech units are distinguished: from simple single use of metaphors to extensive images. The most optimal ways of their translation are determined. It is proved that when translating figurative speech units, the interpreter should take into account the peculiarities of the context. The paper concludes that the most typical ways of forming figurative units in J. McCain’s political speeches are the following ones: rethinking of variable phrases, set expressions of non-metaphorical nature, as well as collocations that do not have a prototype in the form of a variable phrase.
